More Glasses Talk. Are You Sick Of It Yet?

Hi folks! I had a super dope night at work, as usual, but a late night to be sure. So just a short post tonight!

Remember all that glasses talk from a few weeks ago. If you do, then you know that I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair of cats eye glasses. It's a toughie, because even though lots of glasses makers have hopped on the vintage/retro inspired train, finding the right shape, width, height, color, etc takes hours of trolling the interwebs. So I was on Pinerest today, doing it up, and I realized that I completely forgot about one of my favorite bloggers and her TO DIE FOR glasses.

Keiko Lynn! The picture is taken from this post on her blog (which is freaking amazing, by the way. If you haven't gotten over there yet, PLEASE do. She's incredible.). I followed all of her little linksies and found the glasses!

Now, these are Ray Bans... In other words, more than a wee bit expensive for a watiressing girl like me. Maybe with some profitable weekends and saving up some money I can afford them (or maybe they'll see this post and I'll get my first sponsor!), but we'll see! If you guys have any other super neat places to find cat eye glasses, let me know!

That's all for now, loves! The second batch of colored glass jars is in the oven and I get to work another late night tomorrow. How are you guys finishing up your weekend? :)

Much love always!

Obsessed. Like, Mega Obsessed. And Happy Fourth Of July!

Hiya lovelies! Happy Birthday, America! Hopefully you're all out enjoying those fireworks tonight. Enjoy some for me, as I will be at work! Yay!

I know I've mentioned my tendency to go a little... crazy. Get a little... obsessed. :) Maybe more than a little. Which is okay! Healthy (?) even! No judgement here, obsess away.

This week I'm focused on something- someone- super amazing. Someone I actually forgot I was obsessed with! I'm sure you're all as in love with the phenomenon that is Zooey Deschanel. I mean, come on, who couldn't love this little lady!

Seriously?! Who gets to look like that?! If you've been with this blog for any amount of time, or know me personally, you've seen my 'Zooey Deschanel cut/color' hairdo. She constantly inspires me with those terrific bangs! And her style is to die for.

She's so vintage-y and retro and adorable! To be perfectly honest, she makes me want to wear red, navy and stripes ALL THE TIME. I love stealing little style tidbits from her. It never fails, as soon as I see a picture of her street style or a movie still I inevitably end up trolling Pinterest/Ebay/sewing patterns for anything similar to what she's wearing. Obviously, I'll never be that cute, but I give it my best shot! And I am literally counting down the days until New Girl returns for its fourth season this fall on Fox! :)

What do you guys think of Zooey? Is there anyone in particular that you admire? Any big July 4th weekend plans?

Much love always!

Glasses, remember?

What's up kids?! I get to work tonight! Yippee! Color me all kinds of excited.

Anywho, remember those glasses I talked about in this post? I was reading up another blog I just recently discovered (Making Nice In The Midwest) and noticed this little advertisement for BonLook. In all honesty, I don't think I've ever heard of them before, but I am so happy I finally did!

They're a lot like the company I purchased my last pair of glasses from (Warby Parker) in that their frames have a sort of geek-chic, vintage inspired look- which I LOVE! And there's a minimal price difference- only five dollars more, for a grand total of $99! Super amazing!

So when I saw...

I was so, so in love! I have the cat eye sunglasses and I adore the shape, so when it was time to start thinking about glasses it occurred to me that maybe the cat eye shape could work for eye glasses as well!

Obviously I have some time to think about it (i.e.- time to save up money), but I'm pretty sold on these at the moment! What do you guys think? Yay or nay for the cat eye glasses? :) Ta ta for now! Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go!

Much love always!

A Finished Product: Done With My Dress Refashion!

Hiya! Hopefully you all had a pretty spectacular Thursday. As for me, I got to work a whole bunch. You know, refilling drinks and running food and whatnot. Should I decide to write a book it would probably be titled 'The Exciting Life of a 22 Year Old Waitress'. Take note, folks. This is fascinating stuff. :)

So today's post is the final installment of my dress refashion! I'm crazy excited to share the finished product with you!

Okay, so when I left off the other day all that needed to be done was to finish sewing up the sleeves and to alter the neckline. I wanted to keep the scoop neck, but lower it a bit. So I used that nifty little tip I showed you the other day and cut some notches in the fabric to maintain that lovely rounded shape. ( I also forgot to take a picture of that process- my bad!)

And voila! So much more adorable than it was when I bought it- at least, I think so. To be honest, I was super worried about the neckline, but I really love how it turned out! The waist is a little higher than I would like and the front of the skirt hangs just a bit...weird. So I'm toying with the idea of making a sash with the trimmings. Let me know what you think! Otherwise I'm so so pleased with how it finished up! I don't do patterns and I don't really measure stuff so I'm always a wee bit terrified that my projects are going to turn out grotesque. But today is not that day! :)

Next up is that denim jacket I mentioned the other day. Stay tuned on that front. It should be interesting! What are you guys working on this weekend? Any special projects or crafts on the horizon? :)

Much love always!

A Dress Refashion? Don't Mind If I Do!

Hi guys! Here I am again!
It's been a bit of a lazy day. I just got back from vacation on Saturday! A little more tan, definitely tired, but sooo much fun. Now the unpacking... Gag me with a spoon!

So about the dress! I procrastinated working on it until mid-afternoon-ish (procrastination is probably one of my top ten talents). I started with cutting the bottom to bring the hem up about 4-5 inches.

A little tip- when sewing rounded edges like this, cutting little notches on the edge of the fabric every few inches really helps with keeping everything the right length and preventing the fabric from looking all... bunch-y. :)

My least favorite part- pinning the hem! Ugh! It takes me forever. (Help, anyone?)

Sleeves are cut off, everything is all pinned and ready to be sewn!

                                                          (Ignore my fat arms. *Sigh*)

So much better! The sleeves need to be finished and I haven't touched the neckline, but I'm already super excited to see the finished product! :)

I also started pinning up a denim jacket I got from Wal-mart a couple years ago- two projects at once! This will be a first, working on multiple items at the same time. I'll be sure to post about the jacket, too! Check back soon!

Much love always!

A Triumphant Return! Plus: A Dress Refashion Preview

Well hello! You thought I was dead, didn't you?
Just kidding. You probably just thought that I had forsaken my dear little blog! Well, I did. But no more! Truth be told, I MISS blogging. I miss sending little tidbits of sweetness out into cyberspace and hoping it reaches someone's heart. So I'm back! To hopefully pick up where I left off and maybe move in a new direction. :)

And on that note... Some sewing!

I found this funky little dress at Goodwill and bought it on a whim, hoping to try my hand a little refashioning. I've been on a serious alterations kick for the last month or so here- darts, re-sizing, hemming, etc. I think I paid $4.50 for this dress, so IF it doesn't turn out there's no love lost. I liked the general shape of the dress (fit and flare + A-line?), the cutesy retro print and, of course, the pockets! I definitely want to change the neckline, the sleeves and the length. I'm thinking maybe lose the sleeves and make it a tank dress so it's easy to layer in the winter time, as well as enjoying it during these scalding summer months we have here in Wisconsin. ;)
Work on the dress begins tomorrow! Stay tuned for what's sure to be a remarkable transformation... hopefully. :)
p.s. A lot of my older blog posts are kind of all over the place, not really relevant or just plain silly. I thought about deleting them, but decided against it because they sort of document the progression of this blog. Let me know what you think!

More fashion stuff... I know, this is getting out of hand.

Well, I'm sorry- twice in one week may seem like........overkill, BUT there were things that I saw and I knew I would forget if I didn't post right away. This is sort of me "shopping" without spending money, so if you think about it these posts are helping me get to college! Woot!! ☺♥♥

Fall/Winter 2010

I wanted to post about something fashion-y what with all th
e fall/winter fashions absolutely EVERYWHERE lately, so I went looking for inspiration for this upcoming season:

I have to say that I LOVE the idea of this dress with tights, flats and great
coat liiiiiike..

This one!! Normally I'm not into the whole 'fur' thing, but it totally
pulls the coat together.
And I just really love these shoes. ☺
I've been seeing these scarves everywhere!! They're called 'circle scarves' or 'eternity scarves', but I'm totally in love with them.... Maybe after I put away some more money I'll find some on clearance somewhere and buy three! Hey, I can dream, can't I?? ♥♥

Saddle Up, Kiddies!

So a few weeks ago I had this.....epiphany......................

That's right--saddle shoes.

I seem to recall having a pair many, many MANY moons ago (a.k.a.--around the time I was five), and maybe then way back in the day I didn't give them the love and respect they deserved, but now it's like..... SADDLE SHOES!!! ALL THE TIME!!! And it's wierd.

So now I'm in the market for a pair of sweet, inexpensive saddle shoes!! ; )

Inspiration

I have to say that I think that people think that I'm totally retro--like it's "retro-or-no-go"
(haha-that was pretty clever considering that just came off the top of my head) (oh come on! )

But really when I think about it, I can't really place myself in one fashion decade-- So, okay- I love the well-tailored, feminine style of the fifties, but i also find myself liking the erratic prints of the seventies, and the sort of lady-like rebellion of the sixties..... And so I just found myself thinking, "what would I describe my style as??"

And I had to THINK!! Weird- You would think I would have an immediate answer, this being me and all ; ), but NO!! SO I actually came up with a list of words that I thought would be appropriate.

Feminine

Relaxed (part of the time)

Well-tailored ( see above reference to the fifties)

Vintage or vintage-inspired

Romantic is another word that comes to mind, but i'm not sure if thats me all the time-most likely thats just me, in my brain : )

I also have to say that, honestly, words like 'quirky' and 'weird' come to mind, but I think thats mostly just because thats what some people would say about my style (the names Joe and Matthew and Kodiak come to mind *ahem**)

: )

But really, it was just a thought.... what would YOU say my style is??

SPRING!!!! Part 1

SO it's almost that time of year, right after fashion week, but before spring has actually started, when EVERYONE and I mean EEVVEERRYYOONNEE has started thinking about spring-and the change of clothing it brings. SO I thought I would blog about SPRING! And also FASHION IN--SPRINGGG!!!

First things first!!

The actual day when spring begins is: Saturday, March 20th! Isn't that a phenomenal day for spring to start? Really--it's a SATURDAY of all days and- HEY!- who knew it was so close, right? NEXT SATURDAY TO BE EXXAACCT!!! : )

Second things second. : )

Things that happen in spring: it rains (alot, depending on where you are (viz.-WISCONSIN)), flowers grow again (yay! pretty!). and of course... THE SPRING COLLECTIONS ARE RELEASED! not that thats so important, i just thought i would mention it. : )

Speaking of spring-y fashion-y things, I was at Target today (and yes, it's still cool to call it Tar-jay) and i was sort of more th
an a little impressed with some of their spring dresses.

OK-and there were some other ones that i saw, but really didn't cut it, as far as modesty is concerned ; ). I even tried on a few, but....it didn't work out.... OK!
: )

Let's just not talk about it!
HOORAY FOR SPRING!
: )
